Rhode Island Oil Tank Replacement Rebate

Up to $500 for the installation of a new aboveground oil storage tank. Up to $800 for the replacement or upgrade of an existing oil-fired boiler or furnace. Up to $1,300 combined.

Those are the amounts published as of April 1, 2026. The figures circulating elsewhere, $1,000 and $400, are the previous ones.

Rebates must be processed through a registered Rhode Island Bioheat fuel dealer. That means the dealer is part of the plan before the equipment is chosen, not after the invoice is paid.

It also means the question to ask early is whether your dealer is registered, because that is the gate.

The program states that funds are limited and are allocated on a first come, first served basis, and that rebates apply to select types of qualified equipment. Neither of those is a formality.

Nobody should deduct a rebate from a quote before the dealer has confirmed it is available for the specific equipment going in.

It is written around a new aboveground oil storage tank and oil-fired heating equipment. Removing the old tank is a separate cost and the rebate is not aimed at it.

A replacement tank going back underground is a different route again, and it brings the section 1.11(B) approval with it.

This page carries the date it was read and the link to the program page. A rebate figure without a date is a rebate figure that will be wrong within a year, and this one proved it in April 2026.
